Celo, the blockchain network launched in 2020, officially passed from the layer 1 chain to the Ethereum Layer-2 protocol.
Celo announced a successful passage in March 26 x postStating that “CELO is officially the Ethereum Layer 2 protocol”. In the thread, the organization stated that the novel protocol contains one -second blocks, the costs of sub -pachy transactions as well as USDT (USDT) and USDC (USDC) as gas.
Celo for the first time proposed this transition in the summer of 2023, and now it is completed after block production on the elderly layer-1 platform stopped and continued in the novel network. The novel platform is based on a pile of opposing technology and hopeful Rollups implementation.

Architecture based on optimism
ROLPS Blockchain is a scaling solution for layer 2 designed to pack many transactions from the main blockchain, reducing congestion and lowering transaction fees. Bullish implementation owes their name to the assumption that offchain transactions are significant by default, but only by resorting to evidence of fraud during the challenge, if the divergence was detected in the main chain.
Marek Olszewski, CELO CLOBS developer CEO, told CointeLgraph that “migration to Ethereum L2 increases CELO safety and scalability.” He added:
“Celo transactions are now anchored in Ethereum, inheriting his economic security and decentralization checked in the battle. CELO L2 also offers one -second block times and almost instances.”

Irfan Shaik, founder of the Rollup Interstate protocol, also recognized the change as a positive for the protocol. He emphasized that Ethereum “has the greatest network effects of each chain”, adding:
“Layer 1 with fluidity fragmentation can instead use the largest available liquidity pool, ETH layer.”
Olszewski also shared his enthusiasm regarding the transition to the OP technological stack, saying that it allows “deeper composer’s ability with Ethereum-Native applications and protocols and protocols.” The novel system is also significantly simplified, from 365,000 less code line – it reduces the attack surface and, according to him, leading to a lighter, cleaner and faster code base.
He also emphasized that the update retained almost five years of the history of the CELO chain and was carried out in a way without trust. The token was also moved to Blockchain Ethereum, which Olszewski returned, should wisely raise its liquidity. He explained:
“This means that Celo becomes a fully even layer of Ethereum 2-edge of architecture, ecosystem and mission.”
