Update: April 8 at 1:01 UTC: This article was updated about James Murphy’s answers to two questions Cointelegraph.
The cryptographic lawyer sued the US Internal Security Department, claiming that the agency may know who created Bitcoin – forcing the department to share what he knows.
A lawsuit for freedom of information filed James Murphy, who based his accusations on the claims of the Special Agent DHS Saoud at the conference in April 2019, where she said that several of her colleagues had previously met with four people involved in the creation of bitcoins.
“My lawsuit Foia simply asks for notes, e -mail and other documents regarding this alleged interview,” Murphy Published to X after the announcement of the suit of April 7.
“If the interview really took place, as the DHS agent claimed, there should be documentation of the content of this meeting,” added Murphy, who Metlawman on X.

Speaking at the Offshorealert North America conference in Miami in April 2019, Saoud said that DHS agents met with four people who, they believed, created Bitcoin, asking what their motives are and what is the “final game” for Bitcoin.
“Agents flew to California and realized that he was not alone in creating this, there were three other people, they sat down and talked to them to find out how it really works and what the reason was”, Saoud he said In a presentation that is available on YouTube.
If DHS corresponds to the disclosure, Murphy said that “he is doing the case to the conclusion” to solve the secret.
Murphy noticed, however, that it is possible that Saoud and other DHS agents were confused and did not interview the real Satoshi Nakamoto.

Murphy helps the former US lawyer’s assistant Brian Field, who specializes in a dispute about the freedom of information.
The purpose of the Act on freedom of information is to promote transparency and responsibility by granting public access to information held by the government.
2 Questions about James Murphy, also known as Metalman
Cointelegraph asked Murphy two questions about the DHS process. Here are his answers in full.
Question No. 1: What is your feeling – do you think DHS has actually interviewed a real satoshi?
Answer: “I think it is very possible that the DHS agent has mistaken what she said at this conference. I think that DHS agents could meet with Bitcoin code carers or the actual Satoshi cheaters. But who knows? DHS Agent was quite a highly ranking clerk and was able to know what she was talking about.
Question No. 2: If the agency talked to four creators – who can be ordinary US citizens – why do you think that revealing their identity serves the public interest, even if they can expose their security or privacy?
Answer: “I do not understand the question. The identity of the creators of all the biggest blockchain projects, such as Charles Hoskinson and Vitalik Buterin, etc., are well known in the cryptographic community. There are also many main characters, such as Michael Saylor, Tim Draper and others who have accumulated huge wealth through investments in Bitcoin, and their identity are well known.
On YouTube there are hundreds of documentary films in which the amateur identified Satoshi. I’m not one of them. I do not employ investigators to track Satoshi, I am looking for government registers in accordance with the provisions regarding transparency in the United States, if DHS actually learned the identity of Satoshi, I am not sure what justification is for dozens of government employees to have this information, but suspend it from all of society.
Our government must be clear and do not store secrets from citizens, without a justified problem of national security or other narrow dismissal. We consider this to be the basic aspect of our freedom in the USA. That is why we have something that is called the “Act on freedom of information”. Transparency is good, the government is hiding information from a citizen, it is generally bad.
I am open to the fact that I am a pro-bitcoin, I have been an investor in Bitcoin and Górnik Bitcoin since 2017. I talk to the groups of management and decision -makers about Bitcoins and I am in favor of Bitcoin adoption. What I think when I give these conversations is often recipients (who are novel in bitcoins) fight the idea that the creator of Bitcoin is unknown, while the origin of other main cryptographic projects is (relatively) clear.
Therefore, I intend to either clearly refute the theorem of the DHS agent, with whom he interviewed Satoshi, or to achieve transparency that will open the door to greater Bitcoins adoption in the USA and around the world. I support the initiative of President Trump in order to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve and digital actions.
Because the Bitcoin code is open source and can only be changed through the procedure of the Bitcoin (BIP), Satoshi (if he or they have been identified) would not have the possibility of unilaterally influence on Bitcoin changes. As a result, any revelation of Satoshi’s identity is unlikely to affect bitcoin. It is more likely that such transparency would be a positive net for the growing adoption of bitcoins. Others may have different views on this subject, and I respect their opinions. “
Efforts to identify Satoshi Nakamoto failed
The lawsuit follows the wave of recent efforts that try to discover the identity of Satoshi.
In October last year, the controversial document HBO stated that Peter Todd, Bitcoin Cypherpunk, invented Bitcoin. Todd rejected this conclusion, and most industry experts said that HBO evidence was weak.
Nick Szabo, Adam Back and Hal Finney also had their names related to the identity of Satoshi. Shab and back regularly reject the claims that they are satoshi, just like Finney before his death in 2013.
Meanwhile, members of the Bitcoin community are divided whether the unveiling of the identity of Satoshi would be positive for Bitcoin.
Some are afraid that the disclosure of Satoshi’s identity may threaten the decentralized Bitcoin ethos and expose the safety of Satoshi, while others want to be calmed down that Bitcoin was not created by the US government.
