Wake up Silk Road wallets, transfer modern address in Bitcoin worth $3 million

Cryptocurrency wallets linked to the Silk Road darknet marketplace are moving again, less than a year after US President Donald Trump granted a full pardon to its imprisoned founder, Ross Ulbricht.

Cryptocurrency wallets tagged Silk Road woke up on Tuesday and moved around $3.14 million worth of Bitcoin (BTC), According to to the Arkham blockchain data platform.

176 transfers are the most critical activity of the wallet in five years. Earlier this year, Silk Road-affiliated wallets only conducted three diminutive test transactions.

All transfers were made to an unknown bc1qn cryptocurrency wallet. The primary wallets marked Silk Road still hold approximately $38.4 million in Bitcoin, while the newly created address only holds $3.14 million received in recent transactions.

Cointelegraph was unable to independently verify the ownership of the modern wallet and reached out to Ulbricht for comment.

In January, Trump issued a full pardon to Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht, who was serving a double life sentence without parole.

Ulbricht was convicted in 2015 for his role in creating and running Silk Road, a obscure market that facilitated the anonymous trading of illicit goods using Bitcoin.

The Silk Road founder may still be storing millions in unsecured cryptocurrency wallets

While the US government captured at least $3.36 billion in Bitcoin from Silk Road, some industry observers say Ross had multiple Bitcoin wallets that were not discovered during the asset seizure.

Director of the Coinbase exchange Conor Grogan revealed that 430 BTC worth approximately $47 million remains untouched in wallets likely linked to Ulbricht and has been dormant for over 13 years.

Another wallet tagged Silk Road, believed to belong to Ulbricht, contains $8.3 million worth of Bitcoin. Apart from three diminutive test transactions in the last 10 months, the wallet has been inactive for 14 years, According to to Arkham.
