MegaETH reaches 47 thousand TPS in preparation for the 11B transaction stress test

Published on:

Data shows that Layer 2 of Ethereum MegaETH has achieved network speeds of up to 47,000 transactions per second in tests as the project prepares for a stress test before the mainnet launch.

In a Monday post on X, MegaETH said it would conduct a “global stress test” on Thursday, followed by an official launch.

“On January 22, we are opening the mainnet to users for several latency-sensitive applications while the chain is under heavy, continuous load,” MegaETH said, adding:

“Stress tests only matter when they are uncomfortable. Our goal is a sustained, true TPS of 15-35K, a total of 11 billion transactions in 7 days.”

The stress test will see the MegaETH team making the most of the chain on the backend while allowing users to interact with the Web3 gaming applications stomp.gg, Smasher and Crossy Flufle.

“On the backend, the team will be sending a mix of ETH transfers and AMM V3 swaps until we reach 11 billion. Ultimately, MegaETH will have the highest number of transfers ever on all EVM chains while users will seamlessly play with the chain,” the team said.

MegaETH is layer 2 of Ethereum optimized by design for speed relative to decentralization praising it will be the “first real-time blockchain” that will be able to process over 100,000 TPS.

Currently, the MegaETH mainnet is only open to a circumscribed number of infrastructure and application developers. In the stress test, a circumscribed portion of the main network will be made available to users. In the post, X MegaETH said that the official launch will take place soon after the end of the stress test.

MegaETH reaches 47,000 TPS

According to X post on Thursday, January 16 via the Ethereum data analytics platform, MegaETH peaked at almost 47,000 transactions per second (TPS).

“OK, @megaeth, you’ve noticed us, we see you testing things. Over 45,000 TPS, that’s more transactions in 1 second than some networks do in an entire day. I’m very happy that this capacity is being put to good use!”, said Growepie.

MegaETH is expected to reach between 15,000 and 35,000 TPS during the stress test, although this number may vary after the official launch.

Other speed-focused networks like Solana have a theoretical maximum of 65,000 TPS; However, according to real-world data, the values are closer to around 3100 TPS data from the token terminal.
