The Ethereum Mainnet gas limit can theoretically augment 100 times and achieve 2000 transactions per second as part of the modern proposal to improve Ethereum (EIP) presented by the researcher of the Ethereum Dankrad Feist Foundation.
Feist, who had a “damp” solution for storing blockchain data forward EIP-9698 On April 27, which would introduce a “schedule of a deterministic gas reduction” schedule “starting in EPoch 369017 or around June 1.
The proposal would gradually increase the gas limit by a factor of 10 for about two years or 164,250 eras, when one last tenfold growth occurs.
Feist said that Ethereum customers had to vote on the proposal to come into force.
“By introducing a predictable exponential growth pattern as a default customer, this EIP encourages a balanced and lucid trajectory of the gas limit, adapted to the expected progress in the efficiency of the equipment and protocol,” he added.
Since Ethereum can sometimes reach up to 20 TPS in blocks dominated by simple transactions, an increase in the 100 gas limit can theoretically increase TPS Ethereum to 2000. The feist proposal would better position Ethereum to compete with such as Solana, which currently processes non -voice TPS from 800 to 1050 and has a theoretical TPS 65,000.
EIP will expand current Gas limit from 36 million to 3.6 billion, potentially enabling the matching of about 6,000 transactions to Ethereum blocks.
The Feist proposal appears after the Ethereum Walidacists agreed in February to raise the gas limit from 30 million to 36 million.
Earlier, the last change in the Ethereum gas limit took place in August 2021 under the London hard fork, where this number was more or less doubled from 15 to 30 million.
Feist admitted that a rapid increase in the gas limit as part of his proposals may emphasize less optimized nodes and increase the time of block propagation.
“However, the exponential schedule with very gradual growths for the era gives operators of nodes and programmers enough time to adapt and optimize,” he said.

EIP-9698 means the latest efforts of the Ethereum community to increase scalability in the basic layer after focusing mainly on scaling through layer 2 in recent years.
Critics of the strategy focused on the 2 Ethereum layer claim that they broke the ecosystem into several muted chains with low interoperability, which leads to the worse impression of the user.
EIP-9678 wants to increase the gas limit
Ethereum developers also want to test the fourfold increase in the Ethereum gas limit in Fusak Hard Fork as part of the EIP-9678.
Fusaka was probably marked as at the end of 2025, while the next large Ethereum, Pectra update, is to be launched in May.
